The Health Benefits of Beer…

Health Benefits of Beer - Skinny Kitchen

It’s football season again and with it comes tailgate parties and get-togethers to watch the game.  Of course, it also includes drinking beer.  Did you know, drinking beer in moderation can be good for you?  While drinking until you’re smashed is not good, beer in moderation, meaning 1-2 light beers, actually has some real health benefits.

HERE’S My
4 FAVORITE REASONS TO INCLUDE  BEER IN A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

1. IT MAY LOWER THE RISK OF HEART DIEASE: A number of studies have shown that moderate consumption of alcohol, including beer, may lower your risk of heart disease. In one Harvard Study, healthy people who rated their alcohol intake as moderate, had a 40 to 60 percent lower rate of ‘heart attacks.’

2. IT MAY HELP TO PREVENT OSTEOPOROSIS: Researchers at the University of California analyzed 100 commercially available beers. They found that most of them contained enough silicon to benefit bone health (past studies have found that women who are light to moderate beer drinkers have better bone density than non-beer drinkers). Recommended daily dose: No more than two.  The best type to drink-Ales and Pale Ales, which have higher levels of the bone-bolstering silicon than darker varieties. Our Favorite, Samuel Adams Light!

3. HOPS MAY LOWER CHOLESTEROL Hops, the bitter flavor that balances out the sweetness of beer, is a great source of polyphenols, which can help to lower bad cholesterol.  Beer can help to increase the level of HDL (beneficial cholesterol) in the body and decrease the likelihood of blood clots.

4. IT’S FAT-FREE AND CONTAINS VITAMINS Beer contains vitamins B and B2 (as well as B6) and essential minerals like calcium, potassium, and phosphorus.

So you can enjoy a beer or two while watching the games this season….Cheers!
