Starbucks Hazelnut Macchiato Made Skinny at Home

Starbucks Hazelnut Macchiato Made Skinny at Home
Have you tried this at Starbucks? I recently did and decided to remake it at home! Starbucks drink contains espresso, freshly steamed milk with vanilla syrup, and finished with hazelnut drizzle. My skinny version uses hazelnut coffee, sugar-free vanilla syrup, fat-free steamed milk and is topped with a little light whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Each skinny drink has 75 calories and 1 gram of fat.  No fancy equipment needed either. If you’ve got a blender or wire whisk you can whip up this dreamy drink. Although my ingredients are a quite different, mine tastes pretty close…Actually, I like my skinny home version better. I hope you do too!

Ingredients

Ingredients for Coffee:

  • 1 cup (8 oz) hazelnut coffee or decaf, I used Green Mountain Hazelnut K-cup or brew your favorite hazelnut coffee
  • ½ cup fat-free milk
  • 1 tablespoon Torani Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup or Starbucks Sugar Free Syrup, see shopping tips

Ingredients for Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons light whipped cream (from a can)
  • 1 teaspoon Hershey’s Double Chocolate Sundae Syrup or your favorite fat-free chocolate syrup

Instructions

  • Brew coffee. I used a K-Cup but you can brew a cup of hazelnut in your coffee maker.
  • In a saucepan, whisk together milk and vanilla syrup over medium heat, stirring until steaming. Remove from heat. Transfer to a blender and process for 15 seconds until foamy. If you don’t have a blender, don’t worry about it. Just whisk the mixture continuously with a wire whisk until foamy.
  • Pour into a large mug. Add the hot coffee on top. Top with 2 tablespoons light whipped cream and drizzle 1 teaspoon of chocolate syrup on top.
  • Drink immediately. Enjoy!

Food Facts

In March of 2013, Starbucks introduced a new hazelnut macchiato to its core lineup of espresso drinks. They say it’s the first permanent addition to their menu in 16 years.

Shopping Tips

Torani Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup is terrific and can be found in most supermarkets in the coffee aisle. It’s also available at World Market, Walmart and Amazon.com.
Starbucks sells their own line of sugar free vanilla syrup.  Click on this link to buy at the Starbucks store: https://athome.starbucks.com/products/naturally-flavored-sugar-free-vanilla-syrup

Prep Tips

If you don’t want to make steamed milk this drink will still taste great.  Just be sure to heat the milk and vanilla syrup first before adding the coffee.
