How to Keep Asparagus Fresh
It’s asparagus season and the supermarkets are stocking up. Asparagus is very easy to keep fresh, if you store in the fridge. Just follow these few steps:
1. Treat it like a bouquet of flowers. They need to be kept upright and moist to stay fresh. Trim a small amount from the bottoms of the stalks, using a sharp knife. Place them in a tall glass with a little water in the bottom.
2. Cover the top loosely with a plastic bag, and store in the refrigerator.
3. Change the water daily. This will help keep the stalks firm and crisp until you are ready to cook them. They’re best if used within one week.
