McDonald’s Shamrock Shake Made Skinny and Fat-Free

Print Friendly

McDonald’s super yummy Shamrock Shake is back and so is my skinny version! It’s available at McDonald’s each year for a limited-time through mid-March. Get ready to enjoy every sip of my dreamy, minty, milkshake…Guilt-free!!!  You’ll be totally amazed how much it tastes like the real thing but it’s completely fat-free.  No need to make it just once a year. I hope you get a chance to try it soon! Each skinny shake (1½ cups) has 184 calories, 0 fat and 5 Weight Watchers POINTS PLUS.  A McDonald’s 16 oz serving has 550 calories and 13 grams of fat.  Have fun skinny sipping!

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients for Shake:

¾ cup fat-free frozen vanilla yogurt, see shopping tip

½ cup fat-free milk

⅛ teaspoon peppermint extract or mint extract

5 drops green food coloring

2 packets Truvia, Stevia, Splenda or your favorite sugar substitute

3-4 ice cubes

Ingredients for Topping:

Fat-free or Light whipped cream, optional

1. Combine all shake ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth.  Stop blender and stir with a spoon to help blend everything. Blend again for a few seconds.

2. Pour into a glass. Top with light whipped cream, if desired and enjoy immediately. You really don’t need the whipped cream. It still tastes great without it!

Makes 1 (1½ cups) serving

Food Facts
First introduced in 1970, the Shamrock Shake, McDonald’s minty, St. Patrick’s Day treat, is back and available all over the country. You’ll be able to sip the green dessert drink until the end of March and then it will be gone until next year.

Shopping Tip
Buy fat-free frozen vanilla yogurt found at your local yogurt shop or Edy’s (Dryers) fat-free frozen vanilla yogurt.  This brand is available in most supermarkets or use your favorite fat-free frozen vanilla yogurt. Edy’s and Dreyer’s are the same company but are named differently in different areas. It’s called Edy’s in the East, Midwest and South and Dreyer’s in the Western US.

Prep Tip

If you buy frozen yogurt from your local yogurt shop, place in freezer until very firm, before using.  This should take about an hour.

  23. Shelley Says:

This looks great! Can I just freeze some vanilla yogurt instead of buying vanilla frozen yogurt though?(:

  24. admin Says:

Shelley, I’ve only made this recipe with fat-free frozen vanilla yogurt or frozen vanilla ice cream. I’ve never used regular yogurt that’s been frozen.
So I really don’t know. If you decide to try it, I’d love to hear how it turned out!
    With my very best wishes,

  46. Toni Says:

Besides the author, Has anyone actually tried this? And how does it compare to the delicious but horribly bad for you McDonalds shake?

  47. Kate Says:

I just made this and while it was good, it was no way 16 oz. I followed it to a tee and it was literally 5oz at the most. i don’t understand how I could of been off that much.

  48. admin Says:

Kate, thanks so much for your comment. I just made this recipe again. Originally I thought it made a 2 cup serving (to fill a 16 oz size cup). It actually makes 1 ½ cups per serving. The skinny facts and Weight Watchers Points Plus are still correct! I’ve added the new serving size of 1 ½ to the recipe.
    Sorry for this mistake!

I’m happy to hear you enjoyed the taste Kate!
