Hey smoothie lovers…Now you can create one of the most popular smoothies at Jamba Juice, at home! So simple to make, all you’ll need is a blender and a handful ingredients. It’s made with frozen strawberries, apple juice, banana and nonfat frozen vanilla yogurt. The skinny for 1 serving, 176 calories and 0 grams fat. Mine contains more fruit than Jamba’s does. Loaded with vitamins, fiber and so dreamy tasting. No wonder it’s such a popular smoothie!.
- 1 cup apple juice (100% juice)
- 1 cup frozen strawberries, unsweetened
- ½ cup frozen banana, about ½ banana
- ½ cup nonfat frozen vanilla yogurt or frozen vanilla Almond Dream (nondairy)
In a blender, add the apple juice, strawberries, banana and frozen yogurt. Blend on high until smooth. If necessary, stop the blender and stir the mixture. Continue to blend on high until smooth. If still too thick, add a little more juice.
Makes 2 smoothies. (1 cup each)
Jamba Juice was named after the African word jama, which means ’to celebrate.’ Kirk Perron, an avid cyclist and graduate of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo founded Jamba Juice. He wanted to create an energy drink to replenish his body after long bike rides. He opened his first store in 1990 which was called Juice Club. Today there are about 670 ventures which include both company-owned and franchises in 26 states.
Frozen berries are certainly not a compromise compared to fresh. Berries for frozen packaging are picked at the peak of ripeness and start their way through the freezing process as soon as 20 minutes from harvest.
- Strawberries are a rich source of vitamin C and contain some fiber.
- Apple juice is a good source of vitamin C.
- Bananas are an excellent source of potassium, vitamins B6, C, folate and fiber.
- Frozen yogurt is a good source of calcium.
I used Dreyer’s Fat- Free Frozen Vanilla Yogurt Blends. I love this brand because it contains live and active cultures, which aid digestion. Frozen vanilla soy yogurt will also work in this smoothie. It’s a great alternative to regular if you’re lactose intolerant. Trader Joe’s sells a delicious one.
